See how busy Brixton tube is with the interactive Tube Heartbeat map

The amount of passengers using Brixton tube has soared in recent years, and this new interactive map allows you to see the amount of people leaving and arriving at the tube station throughout the day.

In just the past four years, passenger figures for Brixton tube have gone through the roof: in 2013 there was 27.22m annual entries and exits at the station. By 2016, that figure had soared to 33.46m – a rise of nearly 23%.

This mighty mass of moving humanity can be tracked by the Tube Heartbeat website, which graphically displays the peaks and troughs of passenger movements throughout an average weekday.

For stat fans there’s plenty to get stuck into, with the website informing readers that 1.35 billion journeys were made on the tube network last year, with 2 million people commuting on the tube every weekday.

The interactive map displays the amount of passenger traffic on each tube line throughout the day, as well as the number of entries and exits at each station.

The amount of traffic on each line is displayed by thicker lines, so the Victoria line to Brixton starts off as a thin line at 5am, and bulges as the morning rush hour approaches, with ‘peak entry’ at Brixton tube station being between 8.15 and 8.30am.
